General Tutorial Steps for all these Veggie Clay Crafts

  • Pull a piece of clay from the clay block for each of the colors you will need.
  • Work the clay into a malleable ball.
  • Using the specific steps below, form the clay vegetable you’ve chosen.

  • Use the stylus to press dents for the eyes into the clay. Use the images as a guideline.
  • Form small black clay balls for the eyes. Play around until you find the size that fits with the size of your vegetable and your preference.
  • Place the clay vegetables and eyeballs on the parchment paper on the baking sheet.

  • If you’re making multiple clay craft veggies in one sitting, make them all and then bake them all together.
  • Bake the clay craft items following the directions on the package of clay.
  • Cool according to the directions.
  • Using the permanent marker, draw a smile on the vegetable. Use the images as a guideline.
  • Glue the small black eyeballs onto each vegetable in the indentations you made.
  • Use the paint pen to add a white dot on each eyeball. This creates the pupil of the eye.
  • Cover in decoupage glue (optional). Many crafters prefer to seal their clay crafts, but it is not necessary. It does give your project a shiny appearance. It can also make it easier to clean your clay craft project.

Broccoli Clay Project

  • Make a 3/4 inch (2 cm) green ball and then form it into a cylinder.
  • Make 10 balls from darker green clay. The balls should be 1/4 to 1/2 inches (1/2 to 1 cm) in diameter.
  • Press the darker green balls into the top of the cylinder.
  • Use the stylus to make the eye indentations.

Carrot Clay Craft

  • Create a 3/4  inch (2 cm) ball from orange clay and then form it into a carrot shaped cylinder.
  • Use green clay to make three 1/4 to 1/2 inches (1/2 to 1 cm) teardrop shaped balls. Flatten the balls into leaf shapes.
  • Attach the 3 leaves to the top of the carrot.
  • Make the eye indentations.

Corn Clay Figure

  • Use yellow clay to create a 3/4 inch (2 cm) ball and then into a corn shaped cylinder.
  • Create a 1/4 inch ball of yellow clay. Roll the ball into a thin rope.
  • Wrap the clay rope around the corn cylinder. Use a clay tool or toothpick to create the kernels by marking lines along the rope.
  • Make two 1/2 inch (1 cm) balls from green clay. Shape the balls into teardrop leaf shapes approximately 1 – 1 1/4 inches long (3 cm). Press the corn husk leaves around the corn.
  • Add eye indentations with a stylus.

Clay Cucumber

  • With green clay make a 3/4 inch diameter (2 cm) balls.
  • Form the ball into a cucumber shape approximately 1 – 1 1/4 inches (3 cm) long.
  • Make dents for eyes.

Green Pepper Clay Project

  • Use dark green clay to make a 3/4 inch (1 1/2 cm) ball. Mold it into a pepper shape.
  • Use the stylus tool, a craft stick or side of a fork to press the indentations into 4 sides of the pepper.
  • To make the stem – make a ball from dark green clay 1/8 inch (1/4 cm) in diameter. Shape into a step shape and attach it to the top of the pepper.
  • Make two eyeball indentations.

Clay Peas in a Pod

  • Make two 1/2 to 1 inch (1 cm) balls from dark green clay. Press each ball into a 2 inch (5 cm) long teardrop shape.
  • With green clay, make 5 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) balls.
  • Line the peas up and press the pea pod “leaves” around them to create the pea pod.
  • Create eye indents in each of the five peas.

Clay Pumpkin Figurine

  • Make a 3/4 inch (2 cm) ball from orange clay. Press the top and bottom slightly to create a pumpkin shape that is about 1/2 inch (1 cm) tall and about 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide.
  • Use the clay tool to score and create the pumpkin ribs. Five to six score line usually work well.
  • Make two 1/8 inch (1/4 cm) green balls. Roll one of the balls into a thin rope.
  • Attach the rope to the top of the pumpkin and curl to make the vine. Add the other ball on top to create the stem of the pumpkin.
  • Add eye indentations.

Red Pepper or Hot Pepper

  • With red clay, make a 1/2 inch (1 1/2 cm) ball. Shape the ball into a long chili pepper shape about 3/4 inch (2 cm) long.
  • Make a 1/8 inch (1/4 cm) ball from green clay. Shape it into a stem shape and attach it to the top of the red pepper.
  • Make two indentations for eyes with the stylus.

Clay Tomato Figure

  • Make a 1/2 inch (1 1/2 cm) ball with red clay. Press slightly on the top and bottom of the ball to form a tomato shape.
  • With dark green clay, make a 1/8 inch (1/4 cm) ball. Shape the ball into a teardrop leaf shape and attach to the top of the tomato.
  • Use the stylus to create two eye indents.
