How do you make melted crayon heart art?
First, you’ll need some crayons. It’s best to recycle and reuse broken crayons but make sure they are not tiny knobs and bits. You want them to be around half the size of a crayon to make sure enough can melt but still look pretty when affixed to the paper.
Second, you’ll need some kind of canvas or paper. We just used 12×12″ white cardstock but if you wanted to create a stunning masterpiece that lasts, you can use a blank canvas. If you do it on white cardstock, you can always show that off in a shadowbox frame. We don’t recommend copy paper as it will be very thin to withstand the melted crayon.
A canvas paint drop cloth, newspaper or old tablecloth is handy to capture any splatters as we guarantee the small splatters of crayons WILL go off your paper and on your table. So if you don’t want your table to get splattered with waxy crayons, make sure to cover it well!
Can I use a blowdryer instead of a heat gun to make melted crayon art?
We’ve made melted crayon art with a blow dryer before and it does the job melting crayons. However, we prefer a heat gun if you can get your hands on one as they heat up the crayons super fast and make awesome cool splatters as a result!
