Calendar Numbers for the Whole Year

When it comes to printable number activities for preschoolers, calendar numbers are one of our favorites! They’re easy to prep, and they can be used for YEARS if taken care of.

On top of that, these simple number cards can be used in so many ways. AND they can be used to teach and practice a wide variety of early math concepts with preschoolers and kindergartners.

Of course, they can also be used as the name implies – as part of your traditional or linear calendars. Plus, I bet your students can come up with even more ways to incorporate the printable numbers into your math centers.

You can use the printable numbers throughout your entire school year, through all of the seasons. I find the different illustrations add a sense of whimsy for the kids. The themes change, making the numbers like new again and keeping engagement up.

How to Get All the Calendar Numbers

I’ve created many calendar numbers to share with you as free printables. This page is going to house links to all of them! I plan to keep adding to the collection here on Fun-A-Day, so be sure to check back often. In fact, you might want to save the page so it’s easier to come back to – bookmark it or save it on Pinterest.

Each of the above links will lead out to individual sets of number cards. Here’s how I suggest you use this page:

  • First, peruse all of the links.
  • Next, decide on the calendar number cards you’re most interested in.
  • Then click on the individual links.
  • Grab the free printables through the individual links. Usually, this can be found at the bottom of each page.
  • Finally, save the free printable numbers to your computer.

How to Prep the Printable Number Cards

Now that you’ve gone and downloaded the calendar cards you’re most interested in, let’s talk prep. In addition to all the ways you can use them, another benefit of the printable numbers is how easy they are to get ready.

First, grab any materials you need (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

Next, follow these super simple steps:

  • Open the file in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
  • Then print the calendar numbers you’d like to use.
  • Make extra copies as needed.
  • Cut the cards apart.
  • Run them through a laminator.
  • Cut the laminated cards apart.

Of course, if you prefer to laminate the whole sheets before cutting the numbers apart, that’s okay too! I just never seem to have luck doing it that way.

How to Use Printable Numbers

I know I’ve already said it a few times, but I’m going to say it again. You can use the calendar numbers in so many different ways! Below are some ideas to get you started.

  • Use them as the name implies, as part of your classroom calendar. I’ve used them with both, and found the size to be just right. The clip art on the cards mean you can swap the cards out based on season, holiday, theme, or student interest.
  • Practice patterns with the numbers by combining two or more sets. This can be done as part of your calendar, or just take the cards to a table or classroom rug. And you can adjust the complexity of the patterns based on your students’ ages and needs.
  • Pair the calendar numbers with math manipulatives and/or loose parts. Then have the children place the correct number of manipulatives by each numbered card.
  • Use the numbers as visual cues for writing in sensory trays. Put simple materials like sand or salt into a shallow tray. Help the kids write the numbers in the material.
  • Let the students put the cards in order from 0 to 35. You can even challenge them to go in reverse numerical order if they’re ready to practice that skill. Or try skip counting with the kids!
  • Play a game using two sets of numbers. Place the cards upside down in a grid formation. Kids turn over two cards to find matching numbers.
  • Add the number cards to a sensory bin, along with other number manipulatives (like magnetic numbers). The children can hunt through the sensory materials to find matching numbers.

But don’t feel limited by my suggestions! Feel free to come up with even more uses for the printable number cards.

Teaching with Calendar Numbers

I shared a few ideas above for using the number cards with your students. And I’m sure you already have some additional ideas for them!
