Is there such a thing as too many handmade ornaments?

I don't think so, and in fact, those are the only kind we hang on our Christmas tree!

We have several family traditions around handmade ornaments, so each year several ornaments are added to our collection.

Cut the Stencils:

Grab the Free SVG Stencils created for this project.

If you would like, you can also create your own stencil to personalize your ornament.

Cut the stencils out using your Cricut Cutting Machine and Etchmask Vinyl.

Weed the designs using weeding tools.

Apply the Stencil:

Cut a square of Etchmask Transfer Tape slightly larger than the stencil.

Peel back and remove the backing sheet of the transfer tape.

Roll the transfer tape onto the stencil.

Using the squeegee tool, press the transfer tape into the vinyl stencil.

Then peel back and remove the vinyl backing sheet.

Place the slate ornament on top of a Cricut BrightPad and turn it on.

This will let you see the shadow of the ornament through the light so you can center the stencil onto the ornament.

Press the vinyl stencil onto the top of the ornament. I found using your fingers works best to get into the grooves of the slate.

Peel back the transfer tape, leaving the stencil on the ornament.

With a finger, rub all over the stencil. You want the stencil good and stuck to the slate so no etching cream sneaks into areas where you don't want to be etched.

Apply Etchall Etching Creme:

Dip a plastic spoon into the Etchall Etching Creme container and scoop out a spoonful.

Tap onto the stenciled ornament.

Use the squeegee to push the cream around the stencil.

Let the etching cream sit for at least 15 minutes.

Clean off the Etching Cream:

Scrape off the etching cream and put as much as you can back in the container. It can be reused next time you etch.

Under running water, use your finger to wipe any excess cream off of the stencil and ornament.

Once you are sure that all of the cream has been removed, you can peel back and remove the Etchmask Stencil.

Each ornament came with a rope hanger.

String the rope through the hole in the ornament, tie in a knot, and trim off the excess.

I love how they turned out! What do you think?
