Scrappy Mug Rug Tutorial and Quilters Candy
I have been working on a little project for the past few weeks and I finally get to share it with you. I am a guest blogger at Quilter’s Candy today, and I’m sharing a Scrappy Mug Rug Tutorial there! If you’re visiting for the first time, welcome! You’re about to find out how much I love mug rugs, and how much I love to share ideas and tips for all things quilty.
Scrappy Mug Rug
This project is a fast and easy one to make. It’s perfect for using up those small scraps, but it won’t make too much of a dent in your scrap bin (but that’s not the point). This Scrappy Mug Rug is made with half-square triangle units and it has a handy corner pocket. You can use the pocket to put a tea bag, napkin, spoon, or small snack. If it’s a gift, you can add a gift card, note or treat. To get the full tutorial, just hop over to Quilter’s Candy and check it out!
Quilter’s Candy
I have been a fan of Elizabeth Chappell of Quilter’s Candy for a long time. I recently “graduated” from her Pattern Writing Class – which I highly recommend. She also has a Craft to Career podcast which is outstanding for any creative in the business. Not only does Elizabeth offer courses, design patterns, host a blog and a podcast, there is a Quilter’s Candy Membership! This is only open for enrollment several times a year, and it just opened yesterday for one week! I’m not an affiliate for this membership, but I have been a club member for several years. If you’re interested in modern quilting, learning new skills, exclusive free patterns, and like-minded community, you will find a perfect match there.
Recently, Elizabeth designed a sampler quilt for the membership. Each month, a few blocks are released and by the end of 12 months, we’ll have a beautiful quilt. I’m staying on top of this one; below are the first two months of blocks.
If you take a look at the smaller block (above right), you’ll notice the same HST units in one of my Scrappy Mug Rugs. These were the left overs from that block! If you’re already a Quilter’s Candy member, this would be a great way to use up those extras. I also simplified that version of the mug rug. The HST’s are left as is instead of adding the small corner squares. I think I like it this way even better.
Mug Rug Poem
Not everyone knows what a mug rug is or how to use and care for it. I created a little Mug Rug Poem and made a PDF that you can download and print. When you make a mug rug for someone, just add this poem to the gift or card. No more embarrassing “Agnes, what the heck do I do with this?” questions!
Thanks for visiting today. I hope you enjoyed all the mug rug things! Make sure to head over to Quilter’s Candy to get the full Scrappy Mug Rug Tutorial. Have a wonderful week.
