Summer reading and audiobooks for the whole family to enjoy

I know I keep saying it, but hurray for the holidays! And, although this may sound daunting to some of you, we love a long journey. There’s something fun and exciting about packing up the car and heading south. We’ve all chosen our holiday reads and as a family we select our picks on audible, always enjoying an audiobook together. Here’s a round-up of some of our favourites we’ve listened to over the last few holidays.

  • We are huge fans of Emma Carroll. Letters from the Lighthouse is a wonderful read for children aged around 9 plus. But our absolute favourite is The Girl who Walked on Air – an engaging and entertaining story with characters that feel real and alive.
  • The Explorer  and Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell – two books we all fell in love with. Rundell is a marvellous writer and always captivates us.
  • Fing by David Walliams is fabulously fun! A story of a monstrous girl and her perfect parents.
  • The Adventures of the Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton – for younger listeners, such sweet and magical stories.
  • Malory Towers by Enid Blyton – I think I love this series more that my girls!
  • Kay’s Anatomy by Adam Kay  – a brilliant book. Kay shares fascinating facts about the body – both the audio and paperback are fab.
  • Pizazz by Sophy Henn – unfortunately this series isn’t available as an audiobook, but it totally deserves a mention. Florence has always, I mean always, loved Sophy’s books and Pizazz is such a wonderful, fun summer read. It’s a series (three parts so far) about a superhero with the most dynamic illustrations. It’s the best!

I’d love to hear your favourite summer reads, so please do share them in the comments section. I’m certain there are loads more out there for us all to discover!

If you are looking for audiobooks for younger readers, I shared this post which you can read here.
