What’s in Your Hutch/Curio? Part 2 in the Series
Welcome to Debbie-Dabble Blog!!
I am so happy you decided to stop by!!
Just a reminder, I will be posting on Wednesdays and Sundays every week so be sure to check back on those days to see a new post......
Today, I am continuing a Mini Series called What's in Your Hutch/Curio???
I will be sharing What is in one of the Curio's in the Dining Room that I took from my neighbor Elly's house when cleaning it out for her sons after her passing...
In my last post, I shared the "Library" area in my upstairs Sitting Room....
Click HERE to see this post....
And now for a few Personal Notes...
Joe picked up some tomatoes and zucchini from the Amish Farmer who sets up stands every Friday during the Summer at the Convenience Store right down the road from us...
Every year, I say that he has the best tomatoes ever!!!
Looking forward to a tomato sandwich with mayo.....
I will be making some zucchini bread with the zucchini....
We were able to return to Take Home on Fridays, treated by our son, Joey, after being in Isolation for COVID.....
I was dying for sicilian pizza so that is what we got with an extra topping of bacon from a local place, Norm's.....
Joey got an order of boneless chicken bites for himself...
All this for only $35.....
One of the least expensive places around us....
We did have a bit of cooler temps with some lower dew points making it more comfortable outside....
I was able to enjoy my breakfast of a fruit cocktail cup ( only 40 calories) and a cup of brew on the back patio ......
These were taken on what I always called Joe's chair but he never sits out back anymore so I guess all the chairs are now my chairs since I am the only one who enjoys the patio and cottage garden....
A slightly different view of my Cottage Garden....
We are in desperate need of some rain which may come tomorrow on Monday!!
The Lossestrife is in full bloom....
The garden has never looked so good and I am very pleased with it this year...
I also had a visitor to the back yard....
I also took the opportunity to clean the front porch since it was covered with pollen.....
Nice and clean now....
I water daily!!!
I also got to sit out here and do a bit of reading....
I finished the first book in this series and now started the second one...
I use this lighted magnifying glass as I am waiting until I am on Medicare to have my cataract surgery done or get new glasses....
Even though I pay $850 a month for my healthcare and that is using tax credits from the Affordable care act through Pennie, I do not have coverage for an eye exam or glasses...
Without the tax credits, I would be paying $1150 a month for my own health care...
Only about 6 more months until I can get on Medicare and save over $500 a month as I will be getting the same supplements that Joe has....
It was even cool enough that I enjoyed a cup of Chocolate Mocha coffee with French Vanilla Creamers in it that I brewed....
I needed this so I would not fall asleep while reading because I am not used to just sitting and doing only one thing!!!
COVID update.....
Jim and Danielle returned to work at the beginning of last week.....
Joe and Joey will be returning to work on Monday, tomorrow....
Joey was able to work from home while in Isolation....
So far, we are all feeling good with most of the "Cold" and sinus symptoms almost gone....
HOWEVER......
We are quite aware of the Rebound infections that this BA5 strain of the Omicron variant can cause...
I know of several people who have had symptoms come back in 2 weeks and this time around, the symptoms are worse...
So we will be vigiliant and will still be wearing masks for some time even though the recommended time for wearing a mask after having COVID has passed for us....
Masking is still considered the most effective way, other than the vaccines, in curbing the spread of this virus....
Don't want to wear a mask???
Then do not complain when you contract the virus or when it will still be causing problems 5 - 10 years from now....
Viruses do NOT go away...
We have to learn how we deal with them....
And right now, America is one of the worst Countries in the World with dealing with it....
Many areas in the Country are now considering going back to indoor Mask Mandates which is a great idea for everyone's safety....
Look how fast it went through our entire family of 5....
So if you have any of these symptoms.....
"Experts said that, in general, these subvariants do not have markedly divergent symptoms from earlier versions of Omicron. People infected with BA.4 and BA.5 may develop a cough, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, headaches and muscle pains."
Get a test and if a rapid response test is negative, get a PCR test in 2 days....
Then get in touch with a physician for treatment whether it be steroids like Jim and Danielle were put on or an antiviral like Joe was put on....
STOP THE SPREAD or we will be dealing with this for the next decade!!!
Previously, I shared the first installment of this Series, "What's in Your Hutch/Curio?"......
I shared what is inside the Dining Room Hutch.....
I showcased my Moss Rose Collection.....
Click HERE if you missed that post.....
Today, I am continuing this Series of posts with the one of the curios that I was able to take from my dear neighbor Elly's home when cleaning it out for her sons when she passed away...
They kindly told me to take whatever I wanted for doing the work....
There are 2 of her curios in my Dining Room.....
The other day, I decided to give both of them a good cleaning....
This is the larger one in the corner by the Kitchen.....
Before I go any further, I want to tell you that Elly had these 2 curios in her bedroom and had a display of vintage purses, perfume bottles, hair combs, hankies, shoes and jewelry from the 30's, 40's and 50's inside of both of them....
It was fantastic and she bought these curios and did the display in her bedroom when she was well into her 70's!!!
I did take her idea and do a similar type of display in my Powder Room but that will be another post!!!
I took everything out, wiped each piece down with Ammonia water ( my Mother cleaned everything with it), wiped the inside of the curio down, cleaned all the glass and mirrors , inside and out with Perfect Glass and newspapers ( prevents streaking ), polished the curios and put everything back in, rearranging a few things....
This is the top shelf of the top half of the larger curio.....
Yes, I do realize that I should have taken the close ups of the items in the curios when I had them all out on the Dining Room table.....
O Well....
This is a Lena Liu Elegant Era Victorian Lady Bell and 3 vintage glasses.....
Here is a better picture of her from Etsy.......
In the center is a Victorian style clock that I embellished with ribbon roses from Popular Creations, which had a whole line of Victorian items in the 90's....
A vintage glass is on each side of the clock.....
This pin cushions was created and gifted to me by my FB friend Angela along with the hat pins she also made!!
Middle shelf in the top half of the curio...
Another Lena Liu piece...a music box...
A vintage plate.....
2 Home Interiors figurines....
A vintage Moss Rose tea cup and saucer with a luster finish....
The bottom shelf in the top half....
A Thomas Kinkade Victorian Lady Bell....
A Tea for One vintage styled set that Joe gifted me...
The top half of the curio....
The lower half of the curio.....
This is where I display my collection of Lenox Butterfly Meadow dishes that Joe got for me by cashing in his comp points at Mohegan Sun Casino at Pocono Downs Race track which is a mere 10 minutes from our home....
He stopped going to the Casino when he retired.....
The top shelf of the lower half....
The tea pot with matching creamer and sugar bowl......
From the Thomas Kinkade Mother and Child Collection that was gifted to me by my sons one Mother's Day....
" My Love for you is Eternal"
And another beautiful creation that Angela gifted to me....
Since it is a baby sleeping, I thought it fit in with my Mother and Child figurine....
The middle shelf of the lower half....
A Tea for One set and 2 mugs.....
2 more vintage glasses on each side....
A pink crystal that was gifted to me in the center....
With a Victorian card....
The bottom shelf in the lower half of the curio....
A Tea Pot music box that Joe gifted me....
2 more vintage egg cups....
A footed vintage style dish that was gifted to me by a friend....
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I styled this curio in the Dining Room with cherished items, mostly those gifted to me by family and friends!!
There was only one light at the top in this curio up in the top half so I did add a battery operated puck light to the bottom half for more lighting....
In my next post, I will be sharing what is in the smaller matching curio in the Dining Room, continuing the Series of What's in Your Hutch/Curio?.....
My collection of Colonial Gold dishes in honor of Joe's maternal Grandmother and the story behind them....
And a craft that I finally made after having this wood tea pot for many years.....
So I hope you will stop by to visit again on Wednesday!!
Stay safe, healthy and most of all, HAPPY!!
