7 Maximalist Fashion Trends To Shop Now For Summer 2021
While I enjoyed my tie-dye sweatsuits as much as the next gal, it’s safe today 2020 was kind of a wash in terms of fashion. Don’t get me wrong—I still online-shopped like a total maniac, but I didn’t have many opportunities to wear my new finds out in the world (Thank goodness I could still post them on Instagram). With this in mind, I’m ready to fully dive into the top 2021 fashion trends for summer, so catch me listing most of my 2020 impulse-buys on Poshmark.
If last year taught us anything, it’s that we simply don’t know what’s coming. Still, we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some fashion trends! A handful of summer 2021 trends are already popping up all over my Instagram Explore page (and the Instagram Shop tab, which like, I refuse to use) and I’m planning to use the coin I saved by staying home all last year to buy everything the fashionistas I follow on TikTok won’t stop raving about.
As more brands share their plans for summer 2021, this list will grow and evolve, but for now, at least seven concrete trends come to mind. Now that we can all dress up again, maximalism is back in a big way, so pile on the resin rings, toss out anything neutral and abide by a “the more, the merrier” mindset when it comes to colors and prints. With all this to consider, it’s shaping up to be a pretty damn stylish summer, don’tcha think?
If you’re looking to make the most of the 2021 fashion trends, read on for a few to shop now.

Whimsical Jewelry
Resin rings are all the rage—say that five times fast. Go for anything with a chunky shape or unique colorway. If you don’t want to splurge, this five-piece set of rings from Amazon are a pretty good dupe for the much-pricier La Manso rings.

Scarf Tops
Whether you splurge on a designer scarf or settle for a fast-fashion scarf-inspired top, this is a look ideal for throwing on over your bikini to head to happy hour. This printed scarf from 8 Other Reasons is playful but neutral, so you won’t feel like you’re going too bold.

Retro Prints
Groovy, baby. Swap last year’s minimalist neutrals for this year’s maximalist prints, many of which are inspired by the ‘70s. Go for vibrant florals, swirls or anything that makes you stand out, like this printed high-neck maxi from Zara.

Jelly Sandals
Gucci started it, and now anyone still resistant to Birkenstocks (the other trending sandal silhouette of the summer) can go for this girly Polly Pocket-inspired vibe instead. This pair by Steve Madden comes in three pastel hues plus classic black.

Unexpected Knits
Crochet flowers are definitely the most unexpected trend of the summer, but nothing is as inviting as a cozy knit that looks like it was made with love by the coolest hippie grandma on earth. This cardi from Alice + Olivia is a splurge, but you can wear it over virtually everything.

Coach Bags
Coach’s Pillow Tabby Bag has officially put the brand back on the map, and I foresee even more of their leather pieces popping off for summer 2021. My personal pick is the Turnlock Shoulder Bag in this dreamy shade of blue.

Suiting Co-Ords
If you don’t have a good suit in your closet, consider this your sign to get one. And skip the traditional neutral slacks and blazer—this season most definitely calls for a “go big or go home” feel. Plus ladies will love this option from Eloquii.
