As the arguable it-brand of athleisure today, Lululemon now has to focus on making the workout experience more seamless for its broader audience. Its latest move, albeit a quiet one, sees the beginnings of a new range of exercise-friendly hijabs.

Taking its know-how for designing leggings to making head coverings for Muslim women, Lululemon has launched two variations of hijabs: the ‘Lightweight Performance Hijab’ and the ‘Scarf-style Hijab’. A third design, the ‘OTM Pull-on Hijab’, will be introduced later this year.

The hijabs, which are lightweight, breathable, quick-drying, and sweat-wicking, have been three years in the making. For the most comfortable workouts, Lululemon’s designers tapped on its global consumer base so Muslim customers can focus on “[bringing] the energy” while its “fast-drying fabric keeps it going.”

The resulting head coverings promise adjustable fits with “no slipping, no overheating, [and] no interruptions.” The addition of Lycra fiber ensures durability and stretch and shape retention.

The Lightweight Performance Hijab, for instance, is molded to fit under a shirt, removing the need to use pins to keep the garment intact. The head covering “stays put when you’re working out,” says Lululemon.

Meanwhile, the Scarf-style Hijab is built with adaptability in mind, with extra length that enables it to “transform into whatever shape suits you best.”

The hijabs are available in a selection of colors and are priced from US$38 to US$42.
